Post-Operative Irrigating Instructions
At 1 week post op start irrigating your extraction site(s) with syringe that was given to you. Do NOT start before 1 week.
- Fill syringe with warm water (cold water will be sensitive to the site)
- Carefully stick the tip of the syringe INTO the extraction site and flush the site out gently.
- Irrigate after every meal or AT LEAST twice daily. The last time you irrigate for the day should be right before bed to ensure you do not go to sleep with any food in your extraction site(s).
- Continue irrigating your extraction site(s) every day until the holes are FULLY closed. Depending on the size of the tooth and how difficult the extraction was will determine how long it takes to fully close. Approximately 4-8 weeks is normal.
ANY PAIN OF SWELLING THAT MAY APPEAR OR INCREASE 7 DAYS OR MORE AFTER SURGERY IS MOST LIKELY DUE TO NOT KEEPING THE SITE PROPERLY CLEANED. BRUSHING AND SWISHING IS ENCOURAGED BUT WILL NOT COMPLETELY FREE THE SITE OF IMPACTED FOOD. IRRIGATING YOUR EXTRACTION SITE(S) IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO KEEP THE HOLES CLEANED.
